De-Aliasing of Global High Frequency Barotropic Motions in Altimeter Observations
We describe the surprising amount of high-frequency barotropic motion apparently present in TOPEX/POSEIDON altimeter data, and the considerable predictive skill of present ocean general circulation models for what is actually observed. Models can thus be used to remove, at least partially, the energetic high-frequency signals from the data which otherwise are an important source of aliasing.
متن کاملNOTES AND CORRESPONDENCE De-Aliasing of Large-Scale High-Frequency Barotropic Signals from Satellite Altimetry in the Japan/East Sea
In the Japan/East Sea, energetic high-frequency large-scale barotropic motions are shown to lead to large aliasing errors in satellite altimetry observations. The combined aliasing from several neighboring and crossing tracks produces artificial mesoscale signals in altimeter-mapped products, significantly changing the map interpretation. The alias can be well suppressed by subtracting the larg...

Altimeter microwave surface observations in tropical cyclones
Surface measurements in tropical cyclones (TCs) are difficult to obtain and only microwave sensors below 15 Ghz can penetrate the deep convective clouds surrounding the areas where surface winds are the largest (Quilfen et al., 2007). These kind of measurements are crucial to complement the Dvorak TC intensity analysis as obtained from infrared/visible measurements (Velden and Coauthors, 2006)....
متن کاملGlobal reduction with proper motions for meridian observations
When we deal with astrometric observations spread over periods longer than a few years, it is of major importance to take into consideration the proper motions of all objects involved in the reduction process. Not to consider such quantities, mainly when they are poorly known to the majority of the objects, may significantly degrade the final results of the reduction. In this paper, we present ...
